Established
in the early nineties, our Computer Program has been running continuously
for close to 20 years. We have upgraded both the computers and the course
content many times.
Basic
Computers:
Each twice - weekly class
runs for 12 weeks, and the classroom accommodates four students at a time.
Our instructors are assisted by some very capable volunteers and will
assist you in learning at your own pace.
Meeting
the Needs of Computer Students
Our
Computer Programs are student-centred. Personal success is the foundation
of our day-to-day activities. For people with disabilities, having good
computer skills can open doors previously closed and help to overcome
barriers to independence.
We believe the most productive way to learn is in a positive, friendly
and relaxed atmosphere. Our small classes allow for the individual learning
needs of each student to be met. We encourage individuals with little
or no computer skill, or those who have certain fears associated with
computers to come forward and apply.
Most students overcome their fears in our classroom
and have become well skilled in the basics of working with computers.
In our classes, students are taught the basics of word processing and
graphics through the use of materials that are interesting, colourful,
and fun. In addition, they can learn how to create greeting cards, business
cards, brochures, etc.
Students join our classes with a variety of goals. We make every attempt
to ensure that each student's goals are reached.
The
Computer Programs are available at no cost to all with a disability and
a keen interest in learning how to use a computer. Simply drop by and
ask for an application form!
About
the Courses
Once a student's skill level and goals
have been determined, each student is then given a personalized course
designed to meet his or her goals. We offer lessons in Microsoft applications,
Google applications, basic Internet use, working with Windows and typing
skills. There is something for everyone here!
The
above is simply an outline of the material that can be covered in the
courses and is by no means limiting. Student needs and interests are always
considered. We also offer resume writing, assistance with English skills
or essay writing if a student requires help in these areas.
