Registered Disability Savings Plan The Registered Disability Savings Plan is designed specifically for people with disabilities in Canada. The first of its kind in the world, this is a long term savings plan which includes a government grant and bond (depending on income), and is in addition to most provincal income assistance benefits. If you are a Canadian resident under age 59 and are eligible for the Disability Tax Credit (Disability Amount), you are eligible for an RDSP. Earnings accumulate tax-free, until you take money out of your RDSP. Parents or guardians may open an RDSP for a minor. With written permission from the holder, anyone can contribute to the RDSP. You may be eligible to receive annual grants of up to $3,500 depending on your contribution and family income. Even with no financial contribution, you may be eligible to receive up to $1,000 every year of up to 20 years.
